cHAMBER SINGERS AUDITIONS
2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR
____________________________________________________
Auditions for Chamber Singers will be held in the fall of 2025
If you are interested in auditioning, please use the resources below to prepare. Please read ALL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY to make sure you are following the proper parameters.
All students must register for Concert Choir and will be moved into the Chamber Singers course after passing their audition in the fall.
Listed below are all the elements you will be asked to successfully demonstrate during your audition. Each component will be requested in the order listed here.
1. Major Scale
You will hear a series of chords, followed by your starting pitch:
Sopranos/Tenors: F Major
Altos/Basses: B-flat Major
2. Pitch Matching
You will be asked to repeat back several four-note phrases, sung on a neutral syllable.
3. Solo Song
Verse one of "My Country 'Tis of Thee". Must be sung in the given key.
Sheet music:
4. Choral Song
Learn and sing your voice part for verse one of "America the Beautiful". Must be sung in the given key.
Sopranos must learn the tenor part one octave up.
5. Sight Reading
You will be asked to sight-read a four-measure excerpt with the following parameters:
Step-wise motion only.
Utilizing Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, and La. (Scale degrees 1-6)
Excerpts will begin and end on Do.
Rhythms consisting of half notes, dotted-quarter notes, quarter notes, eighth notes, and quarter rests.
You may use any syllable you prefer (solfege, numbers, or neutral)
You will hear the tune-up chords and your first pitch. You will then have 60 seconds to study the excerpt. Once 60 seconds have passed, you will hear the tune-up chords and your first pitch once more before you sing. You can take whatever tempo you wish.
SLOW AND CORRECT IS BETTER THAN FAST AND INCORRECT.
If you want to practice, Sight Reading Factory is a great tool! You can adjust the settings to match the parameters outlined above.
